IV in the Community

March 26, 2012

As a company deeply invested in the world of invention, and as inventors ourselves, we at IV recognize that mentoring is critical to instill the confidence our young people need to follow their passions in the realms of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).  That is why IV is proud to sponsor and volunteer in STEM-related youth programs, including several recent events:

  • FIRST Robotics—Six IV employees rolled up their sleeves and mentored Sammamish, Auburn Mountainview, Interlake, and Bellevue high schools’ teams in this year’s FIRST competition which occurred this past weekend. In addition, Geoff Deane, our VP of engineering, serves on the FIRST-WA board. Congratulations to our mentors and their teams for a stellar performance—with teams placing 8th, 15th, 27th, and 29th among nearly 100 competitors!
  • Expanding Your Horizons (EYH)—Five female IV employees led hands-on workshop sessions at local Seattle and Bellevue EYH conferences giving middle and high school age girls the opportunity to nurture their interest in science and math while allowing them to interact with real women in STEM-related careers. Adriane Brown, president and COO of IV, also volunteered her time to give the keynote address at the parent’s program of the Bellevue Middle School event last weekend. Adriane is a strong believer in mentoring, which is apparent when reading her recent profile in with The New York Times “The Boss” section.
