IV Partners with Perkins Coie to Sponsor Equal Justice Works Fellowship

June 28, 2012

At IV, we’re committed to knowledge and learning—even outside our doors.

We believe that access to public education is every child’s right. Removing obstacles to education for homeless children and teens is the focus of the Equal Justice Works fellowship that we co-sponsor in partnership with Perkins Coie. The Equal Justice Works Fellowship Program funds attorneys to improve social justice on issues including immigration, civil rights, and homelessness.

Our fellowship holder, Katara Jordan, focuses on implementing the federally-mandated McKinney-Vento Act, which requires states to reduce the obstacles experienced by homeless children and teens when accessing public education.

Without a stable home environment, homeless children often experience challenges to receiving the benefits of a public education. Our sponsorship through Equal Justice Works will strengthen the legal and logistical infrastructure supporting the McKinney-Vento Act and increase the Act’s effectiveness.

Katara recently stopped by IV to share more about the program and its important work in the community. You can check out her presentation to our employees on YouTube and photos of her visit on Facebook
